You just had April’s promotion, Hydro Dermabrasion with Electroporation, so here’s the single rule that protects your glow: for the next 72 hours, keep your skin calm and shielded. That means gentle cleansing, steady hydration, and daily broad-spectrum SPF, plus a short pause on “actives” like retinol and acids. In San Francisco, this matters even more than you’d think because foggy days still bring UV, and a quick Embarcadero walk can undo the fresh, hydrated finish you just paid for.
First 24 to 48 hours: the do-not-mess-with-it window
Hydro dermabrasion clears out congestion and lifts off dead skin while adding hydration, and electroporation helps infuse serums deeper without needles. Right after, your skin is clean, receptive, and a little more reactive than usual. I want you to get the “glowy and refreshed right after” look that so many people mention, and keep it.
Quick rules for day 0 to day 2: No makeup for 24 hours, no heavy sweating or strenuous workouts, and no scrubs, acids, or retinol. Keep it clean, moisturized, and protected.
Makeup, exercise, and “can I just…” questions
- Makeup: Skip it for the first 24 hours. If you absolutely need something after that, go light, keep brushes clean, and avoid heavy, full-coverage layers that sit in pores.
- Exercise: I generally recommend no intense workouts the same day. Sweat and heat can push redness, irritation, and congestion.
- Cleansing: Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and lukewarm water. No cleansing devices, no exfoliating pads, no “extra scrubby” washcloth.
What you might notice, and what’s normal
A little pinkness, mild tightness, or a warm feeling can be normal, especially if you’re naturally sensitive or rosacea-prone. Most people don’t need downtime. The goal is to keep the barrier happy so you stay hydrated and comfortable instead of chasing irritation.
Days 3 to 7: protect the results, don’t trigger a setback
By day three, your skin usually looks smoother and more even, and this is where people either keep that “moist and glowing” look or accidentally stir up sensitivity. In the Financial District and along the Ferry Building, it’s easy to underestimate sun and wind exposure because the weather is mild. That coastal mix still dries you out, and UV still hits on foggy days.
For 48 to 72 hours, avoid heat, water extremes, and sun
- Sun exposure: Minimize direct sun and reapply SPF if you’re outside. Yes, even if it’s gray out.
- Hot showers and saunas: Skip them. Heat tends to flare redness and can dry your skin fast.
- Salt water and chlorinated pools: Hold off until the 72-hour mark at minimum. If you’re sensitive, give it longer.
For the full week, pause the “strong stuff”
For seven days, skip retinoids, chemical exfoliants (glycolic, lactic, salicylic), and any professional exfoliating treatments. I’m a fan of enzyme exfoliants in the right routine, and I explain exactly why and when to use them. But right after hydro dermabrasion, the win is patience. Don’t pick at flakes if you get them. Let your skin settle so the clarity and hydration can actually last.
The simple product routine I want you on for hydro dermabrasion recovery
People come to me for “solid, honest advice that actually works in real life.” Aftercare is the same. You don’t need ten steps. You need the right few steps, done consistently.
My go-to aftercare lineup (by type)
- Gentle cleanser: fragrance-free and non-stripping. Your face shouldn’t feel squeaky clean.
- Hydrating serum: hyaluronic acid is a great option. Apply on slightly damp skin, then seal it in.
- Moisturizer: simple, non-irritating, and enough to keep you comfortable all day.
- Broad-spectrum SPF: daily. If you commute through the Financial District or take a ferry, keep SPF in your bag and reapply before you step outside.
And yes, I do talk through what each product does and why. A lot of my regulars tell me that’s the difference between random skin care purchases and a routine that actually sticks.
If something feels “off” after electroporation, reach out sooner
Most people feel comfortable right after and leave looking noticeably more hydrated. Still, I don’t want you guessing. If you’re coming in from Oakland, Berkeley, Sausalito, Daly City, South San Francisco, or Alameda, it’s especially helpful to check in early so we can keep your results on track without extra stress.
What’s usually normal
- Mild redness that calms down within a day
- A little tightness or dryness that improves with moisturizer
- Light flaking for some skin types
What’s not normal, and I want to hear about it
- Increasing pain instead of improvement
- Redness that spreads or gets hotter over time
- Blistering
- Any signs of infection (oozing, crusting, fever)
“Lisa was so friendly and made me feel really comfortable throughout the whole session. My skin looked noticeably more glowy and refreshed right after ✨ You can tell she really knows what she’s doing.”
